According to reports from ISNA and IFP, on Tuesday the spokesperson for the Iranian foreign affairs ministry Abbas Mousavi responded to a statement from Global Affairs Canada on Iran.
In his response Mousavi said “the Canadian government is deliberately ignoring the realities in the region.”
He further added the Canadian government has taken “unlawful” and “unconventional” measures against Iran and “must be held accountable for these actions”.
“Unfortunately, these unlawful and unilateral measures by Canada have destroyed the good relations the two countries had in the past.” Mousavi added.
Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry also published a tweet about Abbas Mousavi’s response:
“The recent statement from Global Affairs Canada and their baseless accusations against Iran are mainly influenced by the electoral competition in Canada. The Canadian government has taken unlawful and unconventional measures against the Islamic Republic of Iran and must answer for these measures which have destroyed the good relations the two countries had in the past.”
According to a report from the CBC, Global Affairs Canada published a statement on Sunday about the escalating tensions between US and Iran in the region. The statement said that Canadian representative will continue to work closely with Canada’s allies and partners “to hold Iran to account.”
“Canada is concerned by escalating tensions in the region, and supports diplomatic and constructive approaches to address the situation. We oppose Iran’s support for terrorist organizations, its threats toward Israel, its ballistic missile program, its ongoing human rights violations, and its support for the murderous Assad regime. We remain concerned by Iran’s nuclear program, and call on Iran to continue to uphold its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.” Global Affairs Canada added.
