The Toronto Police Department has reported the arrest of a man sought in connection to an attack and insult on a citizen last year, followed by his subsequent escape from the scene.
The man, named Mehdi Rezazadeh, a 36-year-old resident of Toronto, was under police investigation since late last year. He was reported to have assaulted and insulted another individual, Majid Jowhari, a member of the Canadian Parliament, during a protest involving a group of Iranians residing in Toronto, and then fled the scene.
According to the police report, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 22, 2022, around 5:05 pm. Police officers received a report of an assault in the Nathan Phillips area.
The report alleged that a man, of Iranian descent, had a verbal altercation with another person. This individual headbutted another person, spat on him, shoved him, and then fled in an unknown direction.
The police report emphasized that Mehdi Rezazadeh, a 36-year-old resident of Whitby, a suburb of Toronto, was arrested on Friday, May 5, 2023, and charged with three offences. He is due to appear in an Ontario court at 11 am on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
