According to European diplomats, European Union members have agreed to impose new sanctions against Iran due to the deadly suppression of protesters. EU will sanction at least 15 Iranian individuals and institutions related to this crisis. It is possible that this decision will be implemented early next week.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday in a speech to EU ambassadors: We must hold accountable those responsible for oppressing women. I believe that now is the time to sanction the responsible people. The use of violence to suppress the Iranian people should not go unanswered.

The approval of these sanctions requires the consent of all 27 European Union members.
