Last week Iranian MPs passed legislation to join the convention to combat terror financing (CFT).

Joining CFT allows Iran to improve its status with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Canada has been a member of the FATF since 1990. In September 2018 Pro-Israel lobby organization, the Centre For Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), published a report recommending that “Canada should advocate for counter-measures to be reimposed on Iran via the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).”

Amid Trump’s unilateral sanctions, Iranians expect steps they are taking to comply with the FATF requirements to improve Iran’s status with the task force and Iran’s international banking relations.
